Windows 8 Shows Steady Growth Rather Than Exponential

The economical crisis that engulfed us all was a harsh reality that many organisations had to take extremely seriously. From the year 2008 businesses have been affected in the manner in which they operate and their marketing efforts.

This stabilization occurred in the middle of 2012 when Microsoft deemed fit to launch Windows 8. It launched Windows 8 3 months before Christmas in anticipation that there would be a huge spike in demand. The performance of Windows 8 is interesting as it told us the state the computer market is in general and what we think is the importance of personal computers.

Since it’s launch in October 2012 sales figures for windows 8 has been a very interesting read. The first 90 days of sales were less than what analysts had predicted for these challenging market conditions. Microsoft saw things differently however, they announced that the figures matched exactly the same amount of sales as Windows 7 – indicating that it was a success.

Delving into the figures a bit more it is not as simple as everything seemed at first. Windows 8 was launched with one thing in mind – to increase market share of the brand. The sales figures are skewed if analysed further, much of the sales were not actual installed versions – they were licences which were sold as part of a computer package. Machines came with a downgrade option available which many users have opted for. Also it was the hardware which was bought, not exactly the software itself.

Windows 8 is a complete transformation of the way windows platform and this was done on purpose. Advocates of Microsoft and the brand itself highlight that they were brave enough to take this step and as a result they are ahead of the market and it will take people time to adapt to the new design which has been built with the mobile market firmly in mind.

Even critics of Microsoft allude to the fact that Windows 8 seems to have a big future ahead of it. The market share of 47% of a platform will never be repeated not because of a lack of quality but for the reason that the industry and technological age is a changing one which will continue to thrive in more ways than one.

The key for Microsoft is now to ensure there are regular updates and that it continues to evolve on mobile devices. The manner in which mobile uses a platform varies significantly to a computer user. A computer user no longer requires a custom PC to ensure that their version of Windows 8 works effectively.
