When you purchase a charger for $40 you expect it to perform well specially for the same brand older versions.
Since MagSafe works well with iPhone 12 because it’s manufactured for it. Let’s dig deep to see if it works with older iPhones or even a non-iPhone product like Samsung Galaxy etc.

When you look at its box you will see a true to lifesize wireless charger for iPhone 12. On its backside you can see it’s USB-C. You need to plug it into a 20 watt power brick from Apple to power it. If you don’t have a 20 watt power brick you need to buy one from Apple.
If you are buying just MagSafe charger you need to buy a 20 watt power brick as well without that MagSafe won’t work. When you will buy MagSafe from Apple or a retailer they might not tell you that. But to make it work buying a 20 watt power brick is necessary.
If you compare it with your old Apple charger you will see that charger would be a USP not a USB-C which is MagSafe. So you will need to buy the extra charging brick. The consumers will not be okay to buy the extra brick to run the charger itself. However, if you have another Apple charger with 20 watt power supply like a MacBook charger you can use it as a power brick to charge MagSafe.
When you open your MagSafe charger you will look at a decent charger with a nicely put cable inside the box which is 3 feet long.If you have iPhone 12 it has all the necessary magnet and other necessities to charge it but does MagSafe works with older iPhone models?
Does MagSafe Works With iPhone 11 And Other Older iPhones?
When you connect MagSafe to iPhone 11’s back right on the middle where its coils are. You will see iPhone 11 will start charging. However, MagSafe does not stick to it as much as it does to iPhone 12 due to its manufacturing difference. You will notice that MagSafe works with iPhone 11. It will not stick to it at the bottom or anywhere else but at the back of its center. To find the charging pit easily you need to slide your iPhone 11 around on MagSafe and leave it on it where it sticks.
Same goes for iPhone 11 Pro, when you place your iPhone 11 Pro on MagSafe it will start charging.
Does MagSafe Charger Work With Apple Watch?
Many ask does an Apple Watch charge on MagSafe charger? When you place an Apple Watch on MagSafe charger it may not charge. It depends upon the series of it though, we tested Apple Watch Series 4 which was not sticking on MagSafe charger at all and was not charging. May be Apple Watch Series 6 charge with it. We did not test it with MagSafe charger. But it’s a big “No” for Apple Watch Series 4. It also does not stick to MagSafe charger at all. It may seem magnetizing a little bit but it does not stick.
Does MagSafe Charger Work With Samsung Galaxy And Other Android Phones?
We placed a non-Apple Samsung Galaxy which is run by android operating system. But as we placed it on MagSafe it started charging. Despite its non-metallic material MagSafe worked with it. You just have to center it and put its back on it. After a little tweaking you will find it and it starts charging. Sticking may not be as good as it’s on iPhone 12 has but it charges somehow. It works with latest Samsung Galaxy models.
Does MagSafe Work With A Fiber or Any Thick Cover On My Smartphone?
MagSafe charger works better if the device gets stuck on it even if it sticks a little bit but there has to be some stickiness to charge it. As far as we found it.
MagSafe remains effective if your smartphone is covered with a thick fiber cover. We tested different devices with different covers on them, they all started charging. The MagSafe charger sticks to the center of its base and charges the device.
Which iPhone Charges Faster With MagSafe Wireless Charger?
Although all iPhones charge with MagSafe wireless charger and smartphones with other operating systems especially Androids. But as far as the fastest charging is concerned, iPhone 12 charges faster than all others. So if you have an old iPhone 11 or below or an android phone don’t panic if it charges slow on MagSafe charger. It may not be as good as it’s for iPhone 12 but it still charges.
