It will come as no surprise to anyone that a list of top ten grossing apps would be comprised wholly of gaming apps. No matter what profession a person might be in, no matter how old or young a person might be, there are a few things that unite all smartphone and tablet users and that is they are all likely to have downloaded at least one gaming app.

Ask yourself how many of the below apps you’ve downloaded yourself and whether you think they are worthy of their top grossing status; needless to say, some of the following statistics are huge. They are ranked by daily revenue. All of them are free.

You know a gaming app is big when they have their own TV commercial that is broadcast on a regular basis. It was estimated earlier this year that Clash of Clans was generating around 1.39 million dollars in daily revenue. The game gets highly rated on Google Play and iTunes, the average on both being 4.5 stars out of a possible 5.

2. Candy Crush Saga, free

For those who like their games to be a tad cutesier and colourful than Clash of Clans, Candy Crush Saga asks its users to “join Tiffi and Mr Toffee in their sweet adventure through the wonderful Candy Kingdom.” Its daily revenue is just under the 1.1 million mark and like Clash of Clans, it has an average rating of 4.5 stars out of 5 on Google Play and iTunes.

Having roped in model Kate Upton to help with the promotional side of the app, Game of War – Fire Age is one of the leading action strategy gaming apps. Players can interact with one another and attack and conquer in a bid to become king. The daily revenue for this app is just over $710,000.

Farm Heroes Saga

4. Farm Heroes Saga, free

Veering away from the trend of having kingdoms and quests comes the Farm Heroes Saga app. From the same makers of Candy Crush Sage, Farm Heroes Saga asks players to “prepare to embark on a farming adventure and become the ultimate farm hero.” Its daily revenue is around $337,000.

Hay Day, like Farm Heroes Saga, is a gaming app that is all about make-believe farming. It gets an average rating of 4 stars out of 5 on Google Play. In its Google Play description, it is described as being “universally loveable” and “100% free-range fun”. It seems players would agree as its daily revenue clocks in at around $266,000.

6. Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, free

The reality TV star and wife to the always humble and shy Kanye West, Kim Kardashian now has an app about her. The aim is simple and wonderfully vapid: to create your own celebrity and rise to fame and fortune. It receives on average 4.5 stars out of 5 on iTunes and has a daily revenue of around $223,000.


7. The Simpsons: Tapped Out, free

The first TV-inspired gaming app to make the list, The Simpson: Tapped Out promises to be “life-ruiningly fun”. The game comes from the writers of The Simpsons and allows players to create their very own Springfield whilst completing tasks to earn donuts. It receives around 4 stars out of 5 on Google Play and iTunes. Its daily revenue is around $187,000.

8. Slotomania – Free Video Slots Games, free

For casino lovers everywhere, Slotomania is the free slot machine gaming app. Players get access to a wide selection of various slot machines and have the opportunity to win coins from bonus rounds, free spins and mini games. Its daily revenue is around $158,000.

Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff
9. Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff, free

The second TV-inspired gaming app to grace the list is Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff. Similar to The Simpsons: Tapped Out game which sees Homer accidentally blow up Springfield, Peter Griffin accidentally blows up Quahog after a fight with his old nemesis, the giant chicken. The aim is to save Quahog, even if it means enlisting Meg for help. Its daily revenue is around $135,000.

Pet Rescue Saga
10. Pet Rescue Saga, free

Again, this is another hit gaming app that comes from the makers of Candy Crush Saga. This time, the app requires puzzle-solving and players must match two or more blocks of the same colour in order to save a pet. Despite occupying our number 10 spot, Pet Rescue Saga has been downloaded over 150 million times and its daily revenue is around $119,000.
