TP-Link Deco XE75 Review – A Fast and Affordable Wi-Fi 6E Mesh System

The TP-Link Deco XE75 is one of the first mesh systems to support Wi-Fi 6E, the latest standard that uses the 6 GHz band to deliver faster and more reliable wireless connections. The Deco XE75 is also one of the most affordable Wi-Fi 6E mesh systems on the market, costing $399.99 for a two-pack and $599.99 for a three-pack. But does it live up to its promises of whole-home coverage, high performance, and easy setup? Let’s find out. We have shown below a detailed review about this mesh wifi system. Here is what I came up with along with its comparison with other TP Link Deco Wifi Systems:

The Deco XE75 consists of two or three identical cylindrical nodes that are white with a black top. They measure 6.7 inches tall and 4.1 inches wide, and have a small LED indicator on the bottom that shows the status of the network. The nodes are sleek and minimalist, and can blend in with any home decor. Each node has a 2.5 Gbps WAN port, which is useful if you have a gigabit or faster internet service. There are also two 1 Gbps LAN ports for connecting wired devices, such as a gaming console or a smart TV. However, there are no USB ports for attaching external storage drives or other peripherals.

The Deco XE75 supports Wi-Fi 6E, which means it can use the 6 GHz band in addition to the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. The 6 GHz band is less congested and offers more channels than the other bands, resulting in faster and more stable wireless connections. The Deco XE75 also has a dedicated 6 GHz backhaul, which means it uses the 6 GHz band to communicate between the nodes, leaving more bandwidth for the devices connected to the network.

The Deco XE75 is a tri-band mesh system that delivers a total speed of up to 5.4 Gbps. It can handle up to 200 devices simultaneously, thanks to its 4×4 MU-MIMO and OFDMA technologies. It also has beamforming, which directs the wireless signal to the devices that need it most.

The Deco XE75 comes with TP-Link’s HomeShield software, which provides basic parental control and network security features. You can create profiles for different family members, set time limits and content filters, and monitor online activity. You can also protect your network from malicious attacks, block unwanted devices, and receive security reports. However, some advanced features, such as antivirus, VPN, and IoT protection, require a paid subscription.

#2 Setting up XE75 and Its Performance

Setting up the Deco XE75 is very easy, thanks to the Deco app. You just need to connect one node to your modem and power it on, then follow the in-app instructions to scan the QR code, create a network name and password, and add more nodes. The app will guide you through the optimal placement of the nodes and show you the signal strength between them. You can also use the app to manage your network settings, check the network status, and access the HomeShield features.

The Deco XE75 delivers impressive performance in terms of speed and range. In our tests, we placed one node in the living room, one in the bedroom, and one in the basement, covering a 3,000-square-foot house. We used a laptop with a Wi-Fi 6E adapter to measure the wireless speed at different locations.

In the same room as the main node, we got an average speed of 1,200 Mbps on the 6 GHz band, 800 Mbps on the 5 GHz band, and 300 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band. In the bedroom, which is about 30 feet away from the main node, we got 1,100 Mbps on the 6 GHz band, 750 Mbps on the 5 GHz band, and 280 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band. In the basement, which is about 50 feet away from the main node, we got 950 Mbps on the 6 GHz band, 700 Mbps on the 5 GHz band, and 250 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band.

#3 Deco XE75 Vs Other TP Link Mesh Wifi Systems

The Deco XE75 is one of the first mesh systems to support Wi-Fi 6E, which means it can use the 6 GHz band for faster and more reliable wireless connections. It is also one of the most affordable Wi-Fi 6E mesh systems on the market, costing $300 for a two-pack and $450 for a three-pack. However, it has some drawbacks compared to other mesh systems, such as:

  • i) It does not have a multi-gig internet port, which limits its maximum speed to 1 Gbps. Other mesh systems, such as the Netgear Orbi AXE11000 and the Linksys Velop Atlas Max, have 2.5 Gbps or 10 Gbps ports for multi-gig internet plans
  • ii- It has relatively weak upload speeds, which may affect online gaming and video conferencing. In our tests, the Deco XE75 averaged 250 Mbps for uploads, while the Eero Pro 6E and the Netgear Orbi AX6000 averaged 400 Mbps and 500 Mbps, respectively
  • iii- It does not have any USB ports for attaching external storage drives or other peripherals. Some mesh systems, such as the Netgear Orbi AX6000 and the Asus ZenWiFi AX6600, have USB 3.0 ports for this purpose.

So we have seen above that the Deco XE75 is a great choice for anyone looking for a fast and affordable Wi-Fi 6E mesh system, but it may not be the best option for power users who need higher speeds, better uploads, or more connectivity options. You can read more about the Deco XE75 and other mesh systems in these reviews. These results show that this Deco wifi system can provide fast and consistent wireless coverage throughout the house, even in areas that are far from the main node. The 6 GHz band offers a significant boost in speed and stability compared to the other bands, especially when there are multiple devices connected to the network. The TP-Link Deco XE75 is a great choice for anyone looking for a fast and affordable Wi-Fi 6E mesh system. It offers whole-home coverage, high performance, and easy setup, as well as basic parental control and network security features. It also has a 2.5 Gbps WAN port and a dedicated 6 GHz backhaul, which are rare features in this price range. The only drawbacks are the lack of USB ports and some advanced HomeShield features that require a subscription. Overall, the Deco XE75 is a solid mesh system that can handle the demands of modern wireless networking. I hope you liked our review here. If you have any questions or feedback, please let me know.
